A comparison between planar netted and striped reinforcement of reinforced earth bulkhead shows that the former property is better than that of the latter in Stability of the whole structure, displacement of wall surface, bearing capacity of surcharge load, the pulling strain of the reinforcement and the property of the whole structure. Therefore, it is suitable for building the retaining wall in great hight or in high-grade highways. This paper is the main result of the scientific project tudy on the new structure of retaining wall in the bess mountain?(contract number:95-0585)sponsored by Traffic Ministry and Gansu province. By using the analysis of large model experimental results in laboratory, the distributive laws have been obtained about the displacement of wall surface, the earth pressure on wall back, and the pulling strain in the netted(or striped)reinforcement, the methods which to be used to determined the bearing capacity, settlement and the rupture of the reinforced body have also been put forward. The results of the FEM method are consistent with the results of the experimental test. On the basis of these workings, the method has been formed in designing the netted reinforce earth bulkhead.By pulling test and theory analysis, the conclusion which the anti-pull force of the netted reinforcements is much greater than that of the striped one remain the same amount of reinforcement has been gotten, the mechanism for interaction between the netted reinforcement and the fill as well as the consist of the anti-pull force have been analyzed, and the formulas for counting the anti-pull force of the netted reinforcement have been put forward. Both the efficiency factors of the reinforcement groups and the similar frictional coefficient should be considered in counting the anti-pull force of the striped reinforcement.For the destroyed model, the distributive characteristics of cracks have been traced from its top to bottom, front to back, two sides and every single layer top. we can think that there are two sets of compound ruptures. They are more common than traditional O.3H method or Ranking rupture.Under the surcharge Load, the earth pressure on Wall back has such distributive laws that small at the top, great in the mid-top, small at the bottom, too. Under the same grade surcharge load, both the vertical and the horizontal earthpressure of the netted model are smaller than that of the striped model. With the increment of the surcharge load, the extent of their difference becomes bigger and bigger.For the reinforced earth bulkhead, its coefficient of earth pressure can be classified as the coefficient of self-wight stress and the coefficient of superimposed stress, the former is coefficient of active earth pressure at the top and coefficient of earth pressure at rest at the bottom of wall抯 back, and the coefficient is changeable in linearity between them. The later changes with the surcharge load.Under the surcharge load, the forms of front surface抯 displacement are similar to each other, the displacement increases with surcharge load抯 increasing and it is great at the top and small at the bottom, so the whole front surface inclines toward outside around wall抯 root, the striped one is different from the netted one in the magnitude and the extent of their displacement, both of the difference are smaller for the former than that for the Latter. It indicates that netted one is superior to the striped one in working property.The pulling strains of both striped and netted reinforcements are decrease gradually with the position form wall抯 back to its end. At the same distance, the pulling strains of the striped one are greater than that of the netted one. It also Indicate that the striped structure has a higher stress level. With the surcharge load increasing, the stress level of every layer抯 reinforcement becomes higher. At the same position, the pulling stress of the reinforcements decreases coutionously with the height from the top to the bottom of the structure.Accord...
