Landslide is a kind of geological catastrophes which has wide distribution, high frequency occurrence, and great loss in life and properties. It is an important problem in the geological environmental engineering in China. The main tasks of landslide study are stability analysis, catastrophe evaluation, and catastrophe mitigation.The thesis summarizes the state-of-art of the landslide research firstly, then the research is conducted covering all the above main tasks. In the research the methodology and comprehensive engineering application are emphasized.In the research of seepage which is an important triggering factor of the landslide, the basic theory of the seepage analysis with Finite Element Method is summarized, and several key techniques of the seepage analysis are discussed. For obtaining the rules of the unsaturated seepage parameters, test data are collected and analyzed. Then the relationships of the unsaturated seepage parameters are given. Under- drainage system is a kind of prevention and cure measurement for landslide, which is most effective and used most frequently. In view of the complicated boundary problem and complicated pre-process problem of the seepage analysis containing drainage holes, the Composite Element Method is proposed. Through the engineering example, the rationality and simplicity of the method are verified.On the aspect of the landslide stability analysis methods research, aiming at the defects of the Residual Thrust Method, the Improved Residual Thrust Method is established. The Improved Residual Thrust Method has passed ACADS benchmark examination. A comprehensive study on the Limit Equilibrium Method of Rigid Body, Finite Element Method, Block Element Method, which are all typical methods in the stability analysis, is carried out. Through the study the suitability and the rationality of the methods are evaluated, the differences and the calculation accuracy are compared among the methods. The criterion of the safety coefficient for the methods is studied, too.Concerning the catastrophe evaluation and mitigation, the surge wave induced by the landslide on reservoir bank is discussed in detail, and the comprehensive mitigation methods are summarized.The theoretical study in the thesis are combined tightly with the practical study of the Sanbanxi and Dayantang engineering projects, the study results have been adopted by the design institutes, and good social benefits are achieved.
