ICF(Inertial Confinement Fusion) laser driver is used to start the thermonuclear fusion reaction under laboratory conditions using high power laser. The construction of ICF laser driver is a high power laser project, which is of considerable scale and difficulty. Furthermore it represents enhancement of national security, energy and scientific research. The SG-III, which is now being built in China, is a huge ICF laser driver. Its steady operation is of great importance to the construction.Reliability, one of the most significant indexes to measure the steady operation of SG-III, is the main quality characteristics of SG-III and is directly related to the system efficiency. It indicates the ability of SG-III to remain working conditions and to perform its required functions during its runtime. The reliability of SG-III can be improved and guaranteed through a series of reliability research, including modeling, analysis, assessment and validation of system reliability. Based on this background and the support from one national 863 project named "engineering reliability study of large laser driver", this dissertation focuses on the reliability management, reliability index system, system reliability modeling, analysis and assessment, and also reliability of some components. The main contributions can be summarized as follows:(1) A general scheme of ICF laser driver reliability engineering for practical applications is established. We first study the general scheme of ICF laser driver reliability engineering, and an outline of reliability work is given. Moreover, the working procedures of system reliability, sub-system reliability and component reliability, which are to assist the designing and management of system, sub-system and component reliability work respectively, are also presented. The results solved the problem that no outline could be referred to in previous reliability engineering work during the construction of the ICF laser driver in our country.(2) Reliability concepts, reliability index system and system reliability model have been established. The reliability index system and system reliability model of ICF laser driver are studied in this dissertation. The index system of ICF laser driver is established by defining such indexes as system reliability, minimal level of reliability, mean time to repair, mean time to adjust, mean time between failure, maintainability, heavy repair time, lifetime and so on. Then, after studying the beam line symmetry of SG-III, the system reliability model, as well as the individual beam line reliability model, overall beam line reliability model, number of reliable beam lines, are proposed. Further on, a reliability analysis and assessment framework is worked out based on those models, and a reliability analysis of SG-III is made using it.
