Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) is the key technology in town planning. The vehicle volume detector has been changed from the single touched loop to mixed untouched methods. Microwave traffic detector (vehicle volume detecting radar) as one of the ITS vehicle volume detecting methods has the wide application foreground. This paper.presents a series of software and hardware algorithms of digital radar technique to solve many key practical questions, in order to develop a high precision,good stability,wholly day, practical volume detector to meet the needs of intelligent traffic development.To set up a microwave traffic detector system, radar detecting target scatting performance must be known. At the same time we must confirm the radar system technique index.First of all, the target scatting performance of the microwave traffic detector is presented. In Chapter two, the measuring principle is introduced and other performances of the whole system are established. And then the function of each component is discussed in detail. The frequency in which the radar works is set down to 24GHz.Microwave traffic detector is being developed for miniaturization, so the digital radar technique is very important. This radar system makes full use of digital radar technique, and in the following parts the radar system construction and the system software and hardware are presented.In chapter three, this paper presents the digital technique application from real-time signal processing,system controlling,signal wave producing. The software and hardware design of Digital Signal Processing (DSP), Advanced RISC Machine (ARM), Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) are introduced in detail, at the last of this chapter the System on Chip (SoC) imagination is presented.Microwave traffic detector must be used expediently, so the system needs the miniaturization. In this system microwave Integrated Circuit (IC) and many digital radar techniques are used, which puts forward high request to signal processing algorithms. First a Constant False Alarm Rate(CFAR) method is presented based on the performance of radar echo, this method is simple and practical and it reduces the probability of false alarm; Second in order to improve the system Signal Noise Rate (SNR), this paper introduces the time-accumulating method and the circuit of getting synchronous signal, which need not the change of system hardware; In the following, for the maximum detecting method and single threshold method have their limitation, this paper presents the area detecting method and range-gene method, which are successfully used in microwave traffic detector and...
