Along with the development of modern science and technology, control of airborne particles become more strict with both particle size and number, so the requirement for the performance and quality of air filter becomes higher and higher. The development of filter testing methods is the guarantee of high quality air filters. Sodium flame and oil fog method, as home current standard to test the performance of high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter, can not satisfy the needs of actual development because of various defects. Therefore, it is necessary to study on new performance testing system of HEPA filters to solve the domestic lagged conditions of the testing method for HEPA filters, referring to the related international testing standards of HEPA filter.In this paper, the filtration theory of fibrous material is studied referring to the review of many existing filtration principles over the world, firstly. Some calculation has been made according to existing academic formula and experiential formula about filtration principles. Secondly, referring to the European standard (EN1822) for HEPA filter testing and other standards, ex. Japanese and American standards, two filter performance testing platforms composed of overall efficiency testing system and scanning system are designed and built. Thirdly, the error analysis of aerosol sampling and the uncertainty evaluation models of filter efficiency are made for the two platforms. And then, some relevant issues of the two platforms are studied, some experiments show that the developed platforms have good reliability and veracity.Through the study of new HEPA filter performance testing system, some beneficial data information is obtained. The development of the automatic scanning and controlling system makes it easy to check filters'performance. The construction of the two testing platforms will be helpful to improve security and reliability of HEPA filters for domestic filter manufacturers, and also beneficial to the future research in this field and the establishment of the related national standard in the future.
