The anti-spin parachute system is an emergency device for guaranteeing HAOA (High Angle of Attack) flight test safety of a new fighter. When the flight test fighter drops into the stall/spin flight condition and the test pilot can't recover the aircraft with the control surfaces, he can ignite the anti-spin parachute system. The power (forces and moments) produced by the anti-spin parachute can stop rotation of the spin aircraft and the aircraft come from a high AOA (angle of attack) flight condition into a normal AOA flight condition. Therefore the recovery from lose of control is completed and the flight test safety is guaranteed.In order to design a good anti-spin parachute system, the very important things are that the designer must be familiar with the philosophy of the stall/spin phenomena and the spin characteristic parameters of the aircraft must be accurately estimated, as well as the most dangerous spin state must be determined. Only from here, the anti-spin parachute size which can produce enough forces and moments for recovering the aircraft from the most dangerous spin state can be chosen finally. In order to that, the mathematic models for describing the aircraft spin movement and the anti-spin parachute dynamics should be built up. Based on this, the concrete design of the anti-spin parachute system will be done properly.In this paper, the design and test techniques of the anti-spin parachute for a modem fighter are researched. The style of the paper located in the comprehensive consideration for the basic theory and engineering application. As a theoretic view, firstly, the basic knowledge of the anti-spin parachute is introduced, and then the function and the present technical level of the anti-spin parachute in flight test field are described. The all concerned parachute-aircraft dynamic system model was built up. As well as the key points in the anti-spin parachute design are pointed out. Secondly, as the base of the design, the philosophy of spin motion and anti-spin parachute dynamics are summarized systematically. The suitability of every spin prediction methods for the anti-spin parachute design is analyzed and the most suitable spin prediction method is chosen for the anti-spin parachute design work. For the consideration of the engineering application, a typical modern fighter is used as the design example. According to the characteristics of the aircraft, through analysis and assumption, the mathematic models for describing the aircraft spin motion and the anti-spin parachute dynamics are built up. Through the application of the basic theoretical calculation and the various experiments and test tools, the most important design parameters are determined, and every important technical issue of the anti-spin parachute system design and test are discussed in details. The general requirement and detailed procedures for the anti-spin parachute design are summarized. Therefore a full technical development process for an anti-spin parachute design is experienced.
