The study on the cultural intercourse between China and the West becomes more important today because the intercourse is more frequent than the past. This thesis is intentioned to review and study the Chinese and European classial landscape architecture, and to dig into the difference and comparability of them.It is indieated that, the classical landscape architecture in China and those in the Europe are very different in the ideas, styles and landscapes of the gardens due to the differences in natural conditions, social environments, cultural backgrounds, religious factors and aesthetic ideals. The former has been seeking natural beauty and appears to be the natural landscape style in symbolism by the influeneces of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism, especially by Zen and the Confucian school of idealist philosophy of the Song and Ming Dynasties, and the latter was in pursuit of artificial or architectural beauty and becomes the human-centered gardens. As the representatives of the gardens in Europe, the gardens of Italy, France and England have the same prototype of geometric and formal garden styles in the classical world. However, there are different styles dominating European countries in the different periods, they were: the renaissance and baroque gardens in Italy, the classical "great styles" in France and the English landseape gardens. They are the fruits of the accumulation of their own cultural and social factors.This dissertation makes compare research between Chinese and European classical landscape architecture art in 18th century. The dissertation includes three parts. The first part, the General Situation of China and Eurpoe on political syastem, economic development, culture , ideology and religionary faith in 18th Century. The second part, the principal part of the article. The third part, the conclusion. The principal part of the article includes the compare between Chinese and European classical landscape architecture on Natural Environment, Social Factor, Technique, Space Layout and Essential. Also, every compare is includes three parts, the expatiation, the example analyse and the reason analyse.China and Europe forms two different landscape architecture styles according to the different cultural structure and modality, philosophy basis of culture and mentality, but both of them are part of world landscape architecture culture and belong to world landscape architecture art. Although Chinese and European classical gardens developed in a diametrically opposite way, they have many similarities, such as similarity in their origins and development. This article makes the conclusion of difference and comparability of Chinese and European classial landscape architecture through the compare research between them. It also has the motivation of urging landscape architector of two countries get better known of each other's eminent tradition and existed problem, especially for Chinese landscape architector to find a suitable development access, extend the research scopes of landscpae architecture and creat new landscape art style. In the mean time, the compare research is also good at understanding the essence and exploring the general rule of landscape architecture art.
