Based on the infrared radiation attenuation mechanism of smoke, the application of graphite powder, micron expandable graphite, carbon black and other infrared-screening materials in the burning smoke agents is studied. The results indicate that graphite powder and micron expandable graphite oxidize easily at high temperature, should not be used directly as components of burning smoke agents. Carbon black aggregation which resulted in combustion reaction has strong infrared radiation attenuation. It is more suited to be used as main shelter ingredients in smoke.According to formation mechanism of the carbon black, the principles used to choose the carbon-rich organic which is suited to be used in the burning smoke agents are founded. The rate of carbon black formation and the factors which affect the formation of the carbon black are studied. The results indicate that the rate of carbon black formation is independent of quantity of carbon in the material which is used. Aromatic organic whose C/H is high engender the carbon black easily, and the engendered carbon black aggregation has strong infrared radiation attenuation. The combustion temperature also affect the formation of the carbon black.A calculation model of smoke agent combustion product based on the minimum free energy is founded. An expert system used to select the burning smoke agent components is developed. Combustion product can be predicted. Smoke IR spectrum graph can be simulated by superimposing the IR spectrum graph of combustion product. Meanwhile the shelter index of smoke in the different wave bands is provided. The smoke agent components can be selected rapidly. It is used to select a burning anti-infrared smoke agent which has strong infrared radiation attenuation in the smoke agent components design with a large smoke box testing system.
