By using two types of maize ------ common type (Yedan22) and high-oiled type(Gaoyoul 15), this experiment was conducted from 2000 to 2001 in Taian Weather Stationand the Experiment Farm of Shandong Agricultural University studying the effects ofnitrogen (N), water (W) and their interactions (N X W) on metabolize of carbon andnitrogen, on their yields and quality of the two types of maize. The main results were asfollows:1. Effects on yields and starch, protein & fat contents of twotypes of maizeN X W had the most obvious effects on yields of the two types of maize. Compared with control, the yields of Yedan22 and Gaoyoul 15 under N2W2 treatment have increased by 93.33% and 131.67% respectively; when only increased the use of nitrogen (N), the yields of Yedan22 and Gaoyoul 15 have increased by 11.54% and 29.30%; only increased the use of water (W), the yields of Yedan22 and Gaoyoul 15 were increased by 34.30% and 32.90%. Compared the three effects with one another, the turns were: NX W >W>N.The effects of NX W had the same trends on the grain starch contents of two types of maize: They both increased with the advance of filling. The starch contents of Yedan22 under N2W2 were remarkably more than those under NOWO and N1W1. But when it came to Gaoyoul 15 there's no obvious difference between the three treatments. Compared with the control, N2W2 and N treatments could increase starch contents, while W treatments could decrease starch contents. The turn of the effects were: NX W >W> N. And the increase under NX W was contributed to the rise of amylopection to amylose ratio. The grain protein contents of two types maize under N X W have decreased before 40 days after pollination, then had a little increase till to mature. With the same level ofwater, the protein contents arise with the increase of nitrogen; on the same level of nitrogen, there were no obviously differences between each other. And N2W2 had the highest protein content. The rum of the effects were: NX W >N>W. When it came to the protein components, N X W mainly increased the contents of globulin and gliadin of Yedan22, but mainly increased the contents of glutenin and gliadin of Gaoyoul 15.The total amino acids contents under N X W were decreased along with their growth, more quickly after 30-40 days after pollination. But it was the same that the effects of N X W on two types of maize were: N2W2>N1W1 >NOWO. The turn of the effects on the total amino acids were: NX W >N> W. Among Necessary Amino Acids under NX W, only Met and He contents of Yedan22 were higher than those of Gaoyoul 15. As for Unnecessary Amino Acids, those of Yedan22 were all higher than those of Gaoyoul 15, among which contents of Asp, Ser, Glu, Ala, Arg and Pro were remarkably higher. The turn of the effects on Necessary Amino Acids were: W>N>NX W; while the turn of the effects on Unnecessary Amino Acids were: N>N X W> W.The crude protein contents of Yedan22 under N X W have increased at the beginning of pollination till 40 days after pollination, then decreased; but those of Gaoyoul 15 have always been increasing before mature. And results also were found that the crude protein contents of N2W2 were obviously higher than those of NOWO. The turn of the effects were: NXW >N>W. Among the fatty acids, the content of oleic acid of N2W2 was higher than that of NOWO, while the content of sub-oleic acid was reverse. The above two oleic acids were the main parts of fatty acids, which obviously affected the contents of fatty acids. But the contents of stearic acid and flax acid of two types of maize were not affected by NXW. As to palmitic acid, compared with NOWO, there were no obvious effects of N2W2 on Yedan22; otherwise it could remarkably increase the contents of Gaoyoul15. 2. Effects on photosynthetic character of two types of maizeIt is showed that the chlorophyll a and b of ear leaves of two types of maize were higher during 0~10 days after pollination, and then decreased quickly. And the decrease of chlorophyll a to b ratio was due to the quick...
