Water-saving irrigation techniques including the sprinkler and trickle irrigation have been the techniques one must take to reduce the crisis of water shortage and achieve the modernization of agriculture as the intension of world water resources shortage. Uniformity is one important index to evaluate the quality of sprinkler irrigation. Aimed at improving the irrigation uniformity and quality, this paper puts forward one new sprinkler irrigation technology—Variable Rate Contour Controlled Precision Sprinkler Irrigation(VCCPSI). VCCPSI uses the Variable Rate Contour Controlled Precision Sprinkler (VCCPS) spaced together when operation, which can eliminate the adverse influences from the circle wetted area contour on the spacing of sprinklers. VCCPSI provides a new idea and technology to improve the uniformity and quality of sprinkler irrigation. This paper conducts a systematical analysis on the VCCPSI and the major achievements are as followings:  1.The key component for the sprinkler achieving variable rate and contoured controlled functions-Stationary-slice-type Flow and Throw-distance Adjustor (SFTA) is developed. The main constructional parameters are analyzed under Water Movement Partial Resistance Theory. The new model of VCCPSI that uses the circle and star-alike contour VCCPS spaced for irrigation is promoted for the first time.   2.The operation equation for VCCPS is developed for the first time that describes the relation between throw-distance, flow rate and rotating speed of VCCPS. The theoretical flow rate and speed and ideal water distribution pattern for the square and star-alike VCCPS are discussed.  3.A new type of lateral arrangement model is promoted that can save the cost of pipe by 7% when sprinklers are spaced in equilateral triangle while 25% in isosceles triangle compared with common arrangement model.
