Sorghum is one of the world's most important crop plants, ranking fifth in acreage among the cereals. It was the major food resource in African countries. It also used as feed for livestock. The sorghum aphid (Melanaphis sacchari) is a key insect pest of sorghum, causing great losses to sorghum and other cereals directly and indirectly annually. It has been confirmed that the use of plant resistance as a pest management strategy is the most effective and economical method. It will be important theoretically and practically in the breeding processing if the Mechanism and Inheritance of the resistance to aphid were revealed and the resistant gene was further located and cloned.Several sorghum strains including HN-16 and F1 hybrids resistance to aphid and some lines susceptible to aphid were employed in this experiment to study the mechanism and Inheritance of the resistance to sorghum aphid through anatomy, biophysical and biochemistry, to look for molecular markers linked to aphid resistance gene through the analysis of F2 population. The main results are as follows:1. Characteristics of sorghum resistance to aphidThe characteristics of sorghum resistance to aphid were studied through the compared analysis on the leaf structure, physiology and biochemistry of different Sorghum trains with different resistance to aphid before and after infested by aphid. It was observed that the leaf epidermic cell is ordered more tightly and regularly, the cell size is smaller, the leaf color is lighter, the reflected light on the surface of resistant lines is heavier and the leaf is thinner of the resistant lins than that of susceptible ones. The result of aphid feeding experiment on different sorghum demonstrated that the aphids can not develop and reproductive normally. The aphids behaved on HN-16 leaves as that in hungry condition. Meanwhile, the aphids always changed feeding pot and can not...
