Soil is one of the essential natural resources that human rely on to live and develop. Soil quality plays an important role in production. It affects on not only the sustainable development of agriculture, crop industry and grain quantitative safety, but also the sustainable development of environment, food qualitative safety and human health. The change, maintenance and improvement of soil quality have increasingly become an interesting subject and arisen fervency attention by agrologist, agronomist and environmentalist. Since 1990s, soil quality has also been given high emphasis in China, and the research on soil quality and sustainable development of environment has become a hot spot. The changes of soil quality are the results of both natural processes and human activities. Human activities are the intensive factors in soil quality, while, the natural process is relatively long and steady. The crop industry, which influences strongly on soil quality, has a close relationship with the natural environment including soil. So it is necessary to study the relationship between crop industry and soil quality, effects of crop industry on soil quality and the functional mechanism in the study of either keeping the sustainable health development of crop industry or soil quality change and sustainable use.Since 1980s, the crop structure has considerably changed in developed coastal region of Eastern China. Decrease of grain crop acreage and increase of vegetable and other economic crop acreage are the major trends of this change. Meanwhile, the investment of funds and technologies in crop industry has increased sharply in recent years, and the intensive degree of crop industry structure has also increased in this area. So it is very representative to study the spatial-temporal regulation of crop industry structure, as well as the effects of crop industry structure changing on soil quality and its functional mechanism. The objectives of this study were to identify the relationship between change of crop industry structure and soil quality; examine the effects of crop industry structure changing on soil quality and its functional mechanism; propose a hypothesis by summarizing relative...
