Rice mutant library construction by physical or chemical mutagenesisThe janponica rice'zhonghua11'was treated withγ-rays or EMS mutagenesis. Then the M2 population was screened for kinds of mutants. The results showed: we obtained 9 918 M1 plants after the rice seeds were treated with 0.5% or 0.7% EMS. In all 10 041 M2 lines, 1 241 lines were detected mutation; the percentage of mutant lines in all lines was 12.36%. We harvested the seeds of 771 lines, and the others with the phenotype of only low fertility were not harvested. For 300 or 350Gyγ-rays, we obtained 10 000M1 plants. In all 8 940 M2 lines, 921 lines were detected mutation; the percentage of mutant lines in all lines was 10.6%. We harvested the seeds of 540 lines. According to analysis of mutants, we found physical or chemical mutagenesis can generate great diversity of mutations, such as tiller numbers, panicle traits, height of plant, mature date, plant shape, leaf shape, flower organ, leaf and spikelets color. All mutant were identified in detail in M3. In EMS mutagenesis 771 lines, we harvested 511 lines; inγ-rays mutagenesis 540 lines, we harvested 432 lines. At the same time, we have done genetic analysis to some M3 mutants.
