The aquaculture of flesh prawn has rapidly grown to a major economic activity in our country, which on a important basis, provides not only economic income and a high quality food product, but also employment to hundreds of thousands of skilled and unskilled workers. However, the rapid expanding fleshy prawn industry started to face problems in 1990's. Diseases have emerged as a major constraint to the sustainable growth of shrimp aquaculture, expecially the infection of virus, causing lots of losing. So it is an exigence to develop tools for the rapid recognition and control of pathogens. The immunology mechanism of shrimp must be well understood to give the best way on the diseases treatment. Like other invertebrates, shrimp possess only innate, non adaptive cellular and humoral immune responses. A major effector in the shrimp cellular defense system is the haemocyte, participating in phagocytosis, nodule formation and encapsulation. These reactions are closely associated with humoral reactions such as antimicrobial actions or haemolymph coagulation, melanization. Taken together, these various systems contribute towards the elimination of invading microorganisms. My studies focus on the innate immunity related genes of fleshy prawn and try to find their functions for giving some information about the immunological mechanism, and support the base for getting new way of curing the infectious deaseses. Also an understanding of the defence system in invertebrates including shrimp may provide proof of the origin of vertebrate immunity and lead to unifying concepts in immunology. 1.Molecular cloning, characterization and functional analysis of a C-type lectin-1ike proteinLectins play an important role in the innate immune response of animals by recognizing exposed glycans on the surface of potential pathogens. Here, we clond a novel member of C-type lectin from Fenneropenaeus chinensis, which was designated Fc-lectin. It contains carbohydrate-recognition domains (CRDs),and belong to a kind of...
