Since the forestry resource is deficient in China, the wooden material supplying shortage should be a serious problem. The crop straw resource is very plentiful in China. It is about 600 million ton in a year. The traditional utilizing way of the straw are to be fuels or rude forages in the farmers' families, a few to be make papers. Its industrial utilization rate is still low now. It caused waste of resources and serious pollution in the air. So that, utilizing crop straws producing the non-wood based panel is one of the popular projects in field of composite study around the world. The traditional studies concentrate on producing particleboard with wheat straw and rice straw. However, this kind of particleboard couldn't be widespread, especially in China, because of the high cost and characteristics of the methane diisocyanate(MDI). How to utilize rationally the straw resources has been more and more concerned in China. In this paper, with crops stalk (such as sunflower stalk, grain sorghum stalk and corn stalk) as the producing materials, the methods of surface modification were explored through studying the basic property and surface bonding property. The glue-laminated technology was studied on the condition of not destroying stalks' lengthwise tensile strength, using the technology of Scrimber and PSL for reference. The study result provides a rationale basis for technology of rational utilizing of the straw resources.By using Optical Microscope (OM) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), the structural features of surfaces and fiber configuration for stalks were observed and analyzed. By the way of using chemical analysis, the chemistry components and property were tested. The results show that the fiber configuration, chemistry components and cellulose content are similar to wood fiber, but the lignin content is lower, the hemicellulose content and the hot water extract content are all higher than wood fiber. The acidity of stalk was found to be neutrality and its pH value was bigger than that of most of woods.By means of SEM-EDAX, the elements of stalk surface are studied. The results show that, except for the element of H, the surface consists of four elements, i.e. C, O, Si and K. The Si content of sorghum stalk and cornstalk surface is more than 30% of the total weight. The Si content of sunflower stalk surface is small. The C content of...
