We observed and studied the forage resources to Hainan and its neighboring islets, recorded 1064 species forage plants, of which 6 seaweeds, 11 ferns, 5 gymnosperms and 1042 angiosperms. In angiosperms there are 475 species of monocotyledon and 567 species of dicotyledon. Of monocotyledon there are 270 species of graminaceous plants and 115 species of sedge plants, and of dicotyledon there are 212 legume plants and 54 composite plants. The results found that there were 23 species of plants not reported in the book"Flora Hainanica"and 6 species not in"Flora of China".602 samples of plants under 255 species were collected during the course and mensurated the DM, CP,EE, CF, NFE, Ash, Ca and P. Through Synthesize the analysis,Thinking the plants of Hainan which can list as excellent herding grass were :bean section herding grass's Stylosanthes. Centrosema,Desmodium,Pueraria,Alysicarpus,Cantharospermum,Uraria,Macroptilium,Zornia etc.;Graminaceous herding grass's Brachiaria,Pennisetum,Paspalum.,Andropogon,Digitaria,Setaria,Melinis,Tripsacum etc;High-quality woody animal feed has Leucanea leucocephala de W it,Psychotria rubra Poir.,Ficus auriculata Lour.,Flueggea virosa Baill. Sesbania grandiflora (L.) Pers.,Antirrhoea chinensis (Champ.) Benth.et Hook.f,Hibiscus tiliaceus L.,Garcinia oblongifolia Champ,Schefflera octophylla, wrightia Pubescens R.Br. etcSpecial organs of plants from 113 species selected from the collections of this survey were determined in terms of lutein andβ-carotin. There were 34 species of plants found to have best results of coloring/pigmentation with lutein content being above 1000mg/kg. The rate of the leaf powder added in the poultry ration ranged from 0.7%-2.6% to 2.0% - 7.5%. The results showed that most of the plants determined contained high lutein andβ-carotin, which were more than 2000mg/kg and 70000 mg/kg respectively in the plants of 6 species: Gynura crepidioides Benth., Abelmoschus esculentus(L.)Moench Meth, Cassia tora L., Minosa sphyaria, Sophora tomentosa L., and Demodium pulchellum (L.) Benth. In accordance with the principle of selection of a plant with high lutein content and readiness for mass production, the leaf of Abelmoschus esculentus was found the best part of the plant for producing high quality coloring agent for poultry in the form of powder. The adding rate to the poultry ration ranged from 0.8% to 3.2%.A field comparison test of 14 lines of Abelmoschus esculentus revealed obvious statistical difference in the leaf yield of dry matter, lutein andβ-carotin of these lines. The Line 004-2 yielded 4948 kg/ha of leaf dry matter, the highest among the lines. The Line 019 had the highest content of lutein (4200 mg/kg) while the Line 014 was the highest...
