Yunnan wild rice is precious germplasm resource, and a very important gene pool that can continually provide us valuable genes for the modification of cultivation rice. Many wild rice species, sub-species or ecological types have distributed widely in Yunnan in the past. However as environment of wild rice changed due to activity of human being, wild rice population number and size decreased rapidly. Therefore investigation of recently existing Yunnan wild rice, measurement and evaluation of some important traits, isolation of some important genes or fragments from Yunnan wild rice are important for further study and development of these resources.I. Investigation of existing resources and analysis of major nutritional components in dehusked seeds of Yunnan wild riceThe results from systematical investigation of the present natural distribution of wild rice in Yunnan showed that one natural existing site of Oryza rufipogon, two of Oryza officinalis and five of Oryza granulata were newly discovered. The genetic diversity of wild rice has also been studied with O.rufipogon as example by RAPD and ISSR analysis together with some important traits related to growth and development of wild rice plants. It was found that the genetic diversity among different ecological types is richer than inside the ecological types.It is the first time worldwide to show the results of the total protein content, 17 kinds of amino acids, and ten mineral element contents in the dehusked seeds of wild rice.
