ObjectivesTo explore the undiscovered law of hospital competitiveness and set up theory of hospital competitiveness.MethodsThe sample was consisted of 15 state-run hospitals in Hangzhou and 14 private-run hospitals in Zhejiang province, which were more than 50 beds and get by occasionally sampling. The survey was conducted using the questionnaire about hospital competitiveness for hospital manager, governor, patient and so on. Patients included (5 inpatient and 5 outpatient) were randomly sampled.Theoretical and demonstration methods as follows:(1) The theory construction was used for exploring hospital competitiveness and it was tested by path analysis method.(2) The hospital competitiveness was evaluated by DEA, level analysis, synthesis analysis and so on.(3) Software Excel was used for entering data and SPSS10.0 EMS1. 3 for data analysis.Contents1. Basal concepts and theory study: Concluding concepts of hospital competitiveness, the theory of resource and model about hospital competitiveness.2. Demonstration about evaluating and comparing: According to the conclusion of theory researching, the demonstration about evaluating andcomparing of hospital competitiveness were conducted.3.The rationality test of model: The rationality of model was tested by method of pathway analysis.Conclusions1. Several key point of view:(1) Hospital gives birth to the needs for improving exchange efficiency, and as the result of labor market taking the place of middle article market. When labor trade efficiency is higher than middle article trade efficiency, the work dividing would bring hospital birth.(2) Patient surplus -resource of hospital competitiveness: The patient surplus is resource of hospital competitiveness. If hospital surplus is certain, then the balance level between patient surplus and hospital surplus would lead to difference of hospital competitiveness. Elements of resource of competitiveness, including hospital resource, environment, transform tools, latent competitiveness, and performances, etc, is concluded by analyzing patient surplus and hospital surplus.(3) Model hypothesis about hospital competitiveness: In terms of resource theory about competitiveness and other reference about model study, a new model hypothesis of "resource-environment-transform tools-latent competitiveness-performance" is pointed out.(4) Hospital competitiveness evaluation theory: Deduced from resource theory and model hypothesis, hospital competitiveness can be evaluated from resource competitiveness, environment competitiveness, transform tools' competitiveness, latent competitiveness, and hospital performances.2.New knowledge from hospital competitiveness evaluation and comparison:(l)Conclusions about transform tools: Efficiency of hospital transform tools focus on the 70%-90% segment; Culture of Private-run hospitals(PRHs) is generally better than that of state-own hospitals (SRHs); The brand honor of PRHs has no significant difference with that of SRHs, whereas their fame and reputation is significantlyinferior to the later. PRHs meet the same problem as GRHs about develop strategy, but private-run hospitals still fail to allocate their target market precisely. As to the institution arrangement, PRHs have better governance structure, but a worse management institution and execution than GRHs do. At the same time some PRHs meet problems such as 'week decision ability' , 'formalization of directorate' , 'bad management institution and execution' , and 'equalitarian in inspire and distribute system' .(2) Conclusions about hospital environment competitiveness (HOE): No significant difference on HOE lies between PRHs and GRHs; No significant difference on location and technical status lies between PRHs and GRHs except medical market and policy environment; (3)0ut-patient market demand and policy satisfaction of PRHs are significantly better than that of GRHs, but the average income and GNP of the market of PRHs are significantly lower,,(3)Conclusions ab...
