Methods Detect the expression of a-MSH and its recaptor MC-1R in human medium thickness skin autofrafts and compared to the normal skin; Observe the role of ASIP antagonize eumelanin synthesis effects of a-MSH in guinea pig skin autofrafts. Results The expression of a-MSH was markedly increased in medium thickness skin autografts than in cortrol samples and was correlated with the pigmentation of skin autografts. ASIP can antagonize the melanogenic effect of a-MSH. Conclusion The results indicate that overexpression of a-MSH may play an important role in the hyperpigmented process of skin autografts.
