Objective: To study the levels of nitric oxide (NO) in serum of 50 patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and its clinical value. Methods: The serum samples include 50 cases of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma(T1, 14; T2, 10; T3,12; T4,14) and 30 cases of heathy man. The method of nitrifying ferment was used to test the level of NO and total concentration of NO3- and NO2- from patients' blood. Results. (1)The volume of NO were higher in the laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma patients than that in the healthy person. The former's valume was122.23 ± 49.11 μ mol/L, but the latter's was 68.64 ± 17.36 μ mol/L ( p<0.001). (2)After opration, the level of NO was lower than that of patients before opration (91.32 ± 33.82 μ mol/L vs 123.74±43.35 μ mol/L, P<0.05). (3)The NO level in the lymph node metastasis group was lower than that in the non-metastasis group (116.23 ± 27.46 μ mol/L vs 128.45 ± 23.54 μ mol/L, P<0.05). Conclusions: The volume of NO were higher in the laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma patients than that in the healthy person; In the course of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma, the composition and exhaust of NO were enhanced in the body of patients.
