[Background]Iron deficiency produces anatomical, biochemical and physiological changes in the inner ear. However, the gene expression changes associated with iron deficiency hearing loss are unknown. [Objective] To explore the changes in gene expression in the inner ear of Wistar rats with iron deficiency hearing loss. [Methods] Growing Wistar rats were fed with iron deficiency diet to make iron deficiency hearing loss models. The difference of gene expression profile was screened and further analyzed with cDNA microarray. [Results] Comparison analysis revealed that expression of 447 genes was up-regulated and 449 genes was down-regulated in the cochlea of iron deficiency hearing loss rats. In the differential expression of genes, actin related genes such as Arpclb, Actcl, Actb & Actal were down-regulated. Actin-control gene Profilin II was up- regulated. [Conclusion] The gene expression profile changes are found in the cochlea of wistar rats with iron deficiency hearing loss.
