ObjectiveTo study the preparation methods and physical-chemical properties of PVA material; To assess the safety and embolic effect of self-made PVA particles as arterial embolic agent. To compare the efficacies of different imaging methods in evaluating embolic effect and summarize the experimental experiences of transcatheter renal arterial embolization in rabbits.Materials and Methods1 Laboratory preparation of self-made PVA materialWe developed a method to prepare PVA absorbent material by mixing Polyvinylalcohol together with formaldehyde with rapid agitation. The surface density, multiplication after absorbing water, volume increase rate after absorbing water, climbing height after absorbing water and its morphological structure were measured.2. Animal experiment of prepared PVA particles2.1 Sterile test, fever-induced test, blood compatiblity, histocompatiblity test and toxic test were done for prepared PVA particles.2.2 Embolization procedure and observation indicators28 New Zealand adult rabbits were classified as Group A and Group B. Group A (n=12) received right renal artery embolization with commercially available PVA particles, while Group B (n= 16) with PVA particles prepared in our laboratory. Su-mian-xin II was injected through ear edge vein for anesthesia in all animals. After successful anesthesia, an angiography catheter was inserted...
