Right ventricular outflow tract reconstruction for congenital heart disease or restoration of continuity after pulmonary autograft transfer in the Ross procedure is generally performed with pulmonary homografts, the current gold standard. Unfortunately, suitable pulmonary homografts are often unavailable, especially for urgent operations and in small sizes. A durable valved conduit available off the shelf in a wide range of size could clearly fill a clinical need. The bovine jugular vein graft with natural valve is one kind of newly achievements in the search for such an "ideal" graft. The present study was performed on the chemical treatment methods, hemodynamic function and characteristics of anti- calcification of the materials after implantation of the bovine jugular vein graft with natural valve for right ventricular outflow tract reconstruction in sheep models. This new natural valved conduits were manufactured by Beijing PerMed Biomedical Engineering Cooperation of Fuwai Hospital. The fresh bovine jugular vein with natural valve of 18 to 26 mm in internal diameter was obtained from a slaughterhouse.
