In recent years, incidence and mortality of major surgical complications have significantly decreased, however, the incidence of postoperative neurologic complications still remain at high level affecting both the patients' prognosis and postoperative life quality. In our country, this issue had been neglected for a very long time due to some known reasons, and till now there is no large-sample and prospective study report seen in this field. To investigate the incidence of neurologic colplications during early postoperative period and to analyze the risk factors , We performed the standard neurologic examinations on 398 patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery with CPB (age> 16) from Sep. 1998 to Feb. 1999 prospectively, and 101 of them were subjected to neuropsychological tests simutaneusly.
