The correlation between Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) and gastric (GC) has raised a worldwide interest, and it is recognized H. pylori infection may be a risk factor to the pathogenesis of gastric cancer. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) even defined H. pylori as class I carcinogen. But this view was merely based on epidemiological data rater than experimental evidence. Although there was population study of positive correlation between sera prevalence of H. pylo(?)i and GC, the investigation results from different countries and areas indicated that there was no parallel relationship. To explore whether different H. pylori strains have different carcinogenic capability, we analyzed the H. pylori isolates from different places and different kinds of gastrointestinal diseases, and compared the anti-H. pylori antibodies in the sera from high, middle and low GC risk areas in various parts of China. And by using Ames test, we investigated whether different H. pylori isolates and their DNA fragments may cause mutation. The main results of this study are as the follows:1. We studied 130 H. pylori strains (110 strains isolated from patients in Beijing, a few strains from Shandong province, near 20 strains from other countries and two standard strains) with SDS-PAGE, Western blotting. More than ten major protein bands and a i'ew functional bands in SDS-PAGE were used for typing of H. pylori strains. The biopsy specimens from the antrum m(?)cosa of all the 110 patients in Beijing were obtained and underwent pathological investigation. The relationship between the clinical and histological features and the SDS-PAGH or/ and Western blotting patterns of the 11. pylori strains were analyzed. SDS-PAGE and Western blotting patterns of the strains isolated from different places were also compared. The results indicated that H.pylori strains isolated from different patients can be differentiated by...
