The study of pain mechanism is always the interested point in neuroscience research. There is similar and different characteristic between visceral and somatic pain. In visceral pain, its quality is obscure, its accurate position in body is unclear, the response of body is greatly intense, such as sudation, tachycardia, breathe hard et al. Effective therapy for visceral pain is lacking, and the underlying mechanisms about the visceral noxious signal transmitting in the brain are poorly understood. Objective To study the function and relationship of neurons and glial cells in visceral noxious signal transmission and electroacupuncture analgesic effects in visceral pain(VP) model rats induced by intraperitoneal(i.p.) injection of 0.6% acetic acid(AA), by using single or double immunohistochemical methods and immunoelectron microscopy, we investigated the morphological response and relationship of neurons and glial cells in medullary visceral zone(MVZ) and spinal cord.
