ObjectiveEpstein-Barr virus (EBV) is an ubiquitous γ herpesvirus that infects approximately 95% of the adult population worldwide. After primary infection, a lifelong EBV latency is established in the host as a healthy carrier. EBV utilizes a variety of distinct genetic programs, each of which is categorized by expression of an unique set of viral genes at various stages of its life cycle. These programs can be grouped into either the latency-associated program or the lytic/replicative program. Latent and lytic genes play distinct functions in viral infection, persistence and replication in human hosts, also they are implicated in the regulation of cell growth and death contributing to human cancers. EBV associated with a spectrum of human malignancis, including Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, Burkitt's Lymphoma, Hodgkin's Disease, some T cell lymphoma, post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease, certain cancer of stomach, breast cancer, and liver cancer. The association between EBV and NPC is subsequently...
