The target antigens (gC and g30K) of the monoclonal antibodies 1A12 and CH-A9 against herpes simplex virus (HSV) were characterized in biochemical propertiesand gene locations with radioimmunoprecipi-tation, physical mapping and other techniques. The monoclonal antibodies to HSV glycoproteins were also used in diagnosis and treatment of the diseases causing by HSV.1. A monoclonal antibody (McAb),lA12, precipitated a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of aproximately 105kd from lysates of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) infected BHK cells. Immunoassays of cells infected with HSV-1/HSV-2 intertypic recombinants localized the gene encoding the target antigen between coordinates 0.640 and 0.682. The location partly overlaps gC. Because its molecular weight is smaller than that of gC, the glycoprotein may be a modified form of gC.2. A 30kd glycoprotein (g30K) of HSV-2 was precipitated from...
