As we know, cardiomyocytes of adult mammal are end differential cells which have no or limited regenerative capacity. If damaged, the necrotic area can only be replaced by non-functional fibrous scar tissue. The loss of numerous cardiomyocytes or decrease of survivable functional cells leaded by cardiac ischemia will result in heart failure. These have been known as the main reasons of death of patients with cardiovascular diseases. Although recent studies indicate that cardiac stem cells existe in adult heart, the limited proliferate potential of these cells are not enough to repair the damaged cardiac muscle tissue. Currently, heart transplantation is one of effective therapeutic skill of cardiac necrotic diseases, but due to the shortage of donor, immunoreactions and the expensive therapeutic cost, the use of heart transplantation are limited. Researchers and clinician are searching for new effective therapeutic schemes. Cell transplantation provides a new therapeutic scheme for cardiomyocyte repair and cardiac functional recovery. Many kinds of cells such as fetal and newborn cardiomyocytes, skeletal satellitic muscle cells, smooth muscle cells, fibroblasts and bone marrow derived cells have been applied to cell transplantation for myocardial infarction therapy in animal model. As shortage of cell sources and immuno-rejective reaction, how to obtain numerous cells which are required for cell transplantation to guarantee enough cells alive or improve survival of these cells will be the mostly problem in front of us.Embryonal carcinoma cells (EC cells) resemble the embryonic stem cells (ES cells) in some aspects, for example in differentiating potential, ultrastructure, and cell surface antigen and biochemical characters and so on. In addition, compared with ES cells, EC cells keep the undifferentiated state when culture without feeding layer and LIF culture condition. The culture and...
