By employing modern chromatographic techniques and spectrometric analysis as well as classical chemical methods, this doctoral dissertation dealt with the chemical constituents of two traditional Chinese medicines Rhizoma Typhonii (tubers of Typhonium giganteum Engl.) and Semen Aesculi (seeds of Aesculus wilsonii Rehd.) which are recorded in Chinese pharmacopoeia(2000ed). Twenty-five (1~25) compounds were isolated and elucidated from these two medicines. Typhonoside A, a new compound, had been synthesized for the first time.Baifuzi has been used for a long time as a traditional Chinese medicine. It has the effects of "dispelling wind-phlegm" and is used for the treatment of cerebral apoplexy, cerebrovascular diseases, migraine etc., but the active constituents on the medicine are still unknown as yet. The modern researching and further development on it has to be delayed because there is no authentic sample for clinical quality control. Twenty-three natural products were isolated and characterized from it, 1~10 were cerebrosides which have been isolated from Typhonium genus for the first time. 1~2, 9~10 were novel compounds, named as Typhonoside A(1), Typhonoside B(2), Typhonoside C(9), Typhonoside D(10) respectively, 11(1,2-di-O-palmitoyl-3- β -D-galactopyranosyl-sn-glycerol) was a...
