Background and significanceInflammatory responses are very important in the pathologic and physiologic mechanisms of diseases confronted by surgeons. According to statistic analysis, the occurrence rate of sepsis reaches 33.3% in hospitalized patients, over 50% in ICU and over 80% in surgery. At present, sepsis is the main cause of patient's death in ICU even if antibiotics are widely used. Recently, it has been known that the aggravated state of sepsis is relevant to the excessive inflammatory stimulation to the body, induced by the release of cell wall components of pathogens. Therefore, it is the key point for the treatment of sepsis that the excessively inflammatory responses should be controlled, and new available and reasonable therapeutic interventions against sepsis are still on the way.Previously, a high dosage of antibiotics was usually used for the treatment of sepsis, however, which was not effective and might be companied with the drug tolerance problem. After ten-year concentrated researches on this issue, researchers have known that the invasion of pathogens could disturb the immune system after trauma, causing both excessive inflammatory responses and decreased immune functions. Infection is the main cause that SIRS could be quickly developed into MODS, because of the decreased immune functions of hosts. Therefore, the researches pay more and more attentions to the immune treatments for infections.Sepsis is the excessive inflammatory responses to invaded pathogens and a large amount of fragmentized tissues and cells also could result in these responses. In general, the excessive activation of inflammatory cells, provoked by the translocation of intestine bacteria after inflammatory injuries, especially the entering of bacteria endotoxin into the blood circulation through intestinal mucosa barrier, is the main mechanism that sepsis occurs. The binding between LPS and the receptors of inflammatory cells, especially...
