BackgroundAdolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a three dimensional deformity of the spine which occurs during the puberty. It is one of the focuses of spine surgery due to its serious impairments to growth and mentality of the young patients. Since its etiology is still not clear, AIS is indeed a difficult problem for spine surgeon. Despite extensive research, relatively little is known about the etiology of AIS. Multiple theories have been proposed, and its etiology is probably multifactorial in nature. A limited number of studies have evaluated the changes in bone microarchitecture in spinal facets, which are important structures of the posterior spinal column. Therefore, this study is focused on the spinal facets in AIS patients.Objective1. To assessed the facets in patients with AIS in order to determine whether there are abnormalities of the microarchitecture of the spinal facets.2. To construct subtractive cDNA library from the bone of apical facets in AIS patient with suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) technique. Besides, clone and analyze the differentially expressed genes.
