Part One: The Development of Chinese General Quality of Life InstrumentObjective: To develop a Chinese general quality of life instrument in accordance with Chinese culture and assess its reliability, validity and acceptability.Methods: A 35 Items Quality of Life Questionnaire (QOL-35) was developed on the bases of World Health Organization Quality of Life instrument (WHOQOL-100) and the 36-Item Medical Outcomes Study Short-Form Health Status Survey (MOS SF-36). The contents included six domains: general health and quality of life, independently living ability (ability of daily living activities, dependence of trentment or medicine), physiological functions (pain, sleep, fatigue, appetite), psycological fucntions (selfconfidence, living pleasure, negative feeling, strainness of spirit, memory, attention), society functions (social relation, social sustain, sexial life, loneliness), living conditions (house and economy) and one single item on the changes of qulity of life in recent one year which was excluded from total score.In August of 2002, QOL-35 was used in a presurvey with 30 participants in a community of Shijingshan District of Beijing. The maneuverability and discriminent validity was analyzed initially and then modifications were made to form final QOL-35 edition.In order to define the criterian of scores of quality of life, 84 people were sampled randomly from nature population in Shijingshan District of Beijing and took part in the survey on responsive scales of quality of life.
