Objectives The indirect-immunology-fluorescence(IIF) technique was used to detecthuman papillomavirus (HPV) in condyloma acuminitum (CA). The accuracy andsensibility of this technique was compared with which of polymerase chain reaction(PCR).Materials and methods 60 cases of CA tissues were collected in the STD clinic. Thetissues were tested with IIF and PCR separately. The virus was also identified withrestriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP).Results Specific fluorescence was found in 34 of the total 60 cases and 58 cases werepositive with PCR. The positive rate is 56.67% and 96.67% respectively. HPV6 andHPV11 were the main types in the detected HPV.Conclusion IIF could detect mature HPV with integra capsid. This technique was easy tooperate and could lessen the torture of the patients. It seemed that this technique could beused to the papanicolaou (PAP) of the cervix and may help to prevent cervical cancer.
