Part one: Effect of fosinopril and losartan on left ventricular function of rats with heart failureObjective To evaluate the effect of long-term treatment with fosinopril and losartan on the left ventricular (LV) function of rats with chronic heart failure(HF) by echocardiography. Methods Thirty-six rats with LVEF<45% were randomized to three groups: HF-F(n=12, fosinopril, 30mg-kg-1-d-1), HF-L(n=12, losartan, 50mgkg-1·d-1). HF-C(n=12, placebo) and Sham-operated rats(n=8) served as controls. LV function was assessed by echocardiography before and after 8 weeks of treatment. The left ventricular end-diastolic and end-systolic dimension(LVIDd, LVIDs), and left ventricular end-diastolic and end-systolic volume(LVEDV, LVESV), and left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF), and fractional shortening of short axis(FS) were measured. Results Compared with that of sham, LVIDd(5.82±0.93 vs 8.76± 1.73mm, p<0.001), LVIDs(2.48±0.79 vs 6.44±2.13mm, p<0.001) , LVEDV(0.268 ±0.101 vs 0.494±0.173ml, p<0.01) and LVESV(0.121 ±0.049 vs 0.315 + 0.140ml, p<0.01) of HF-C was increased remarkably, and LVEF(55.0±8.3% vs 37.5 ±8.9%, p<0.01) and FS(57.0 ± 12.7% vs 28.3 ±11.1%, p<0.001) of HF-C decreased noteworthily. Compared with HF-C, LVIDd(8.76± 1.73 vs 6.91 ±0.67mm, p<0.001), LVIDs(6.44±2.13 vs 4.69±0.90mm, p<0.01), LVEDV(0.494±0.173 vs 0.364± 0.116ml, p<0.05) and LVESV(0.315±0.140 vs 0.194±0.086ml, p<0.01) of HF-F...
