In traditional Chinese medicine, Jaundice indicates the diseases with major symptoms such as patients with yellow eyeball, which is the most important symptom, yellow skin or yellow urine. The history of the literature of Jaundice is divided into five periods, i.e. pre -Qin and East & West Han period, Wei-Jin-Sui-Tang period, Song-Jin-Yuan period , Ming-Qing period, and Later qing & Min guo period. The article discusses some questions in the history of Jaundice. Icterus is one of the major diseases, which was first recorded in pre-Qin and East & West Han period. After probing the nominal history of Jaundice, the article testified that Zu Bi Shi Yi Mai Jiu Jing and Yin Yang Shi Yi Mai Jiu Jing, which were written on the silk unearthed from Ma Wang Dui of Han Dynasty, are the first literature recorded Jaundice. It is recorded in Huang Di Nei Jing that the main symptoms of Jaundice are yellow eyeball, yellow urine, yellow skin, deep sleep, etc. Shang Han Za Bing Lun, written by Zhang Zhongjing of East Han Dynasty, is the first book systematically discussed about the diagnosis and curing Jaundice. The two books laid solid foundation for the later generations.The high lights of the development of Jaundice in Wei-Jin-Sui-Tang period is the increase of clinic diagnosis and curing Jaundice. In Song-Jin-Yuan period, the diagnosis of Jaundice generally developed from diagnosing by details to simplifying the diagnosis. In Ming Dynasty, with the constant integration of Jaundice of Shang Han and the other diseases, the related prognosis content gradually enriched. The recognition history and curing experiences of Jaundice will provide historical reference for the modern physicians to cure Jaundice.
