AIM: To explore the effects of Baisong Tablet (BST) behavior and synapse protein of hippocampus of Chronic Stress depression rats so as to investigate the antidepressant mechanism of BST.METHODS: (1) Establishing the model of Chronic Stress depression rats: all rats except the normal control group singly housed and exposed an unpredicted sequence of mild stressors. (2) Grouping: Eighty male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly allocated to four groups: normal control group, model group, fluoxetine(FXT) group and BST group. The normal control rats were fed in a natural environment. Rats of the model, FXT and BST groups singly housed and given an unpredicted sequence of mild stressors. Rats of the FXT and BST groups were ingested with the liquid medicine of FXT or BST respectively on the 8th day. Rats of the model groups were ingested with equitable 0.9% Nacl. (3) The behaviors of rats have been detected by open-field test and sucrose preference test in the beginning, on the 7th, the 14th and the 21st day. (4) The distribution and expression difference of SYT and SYP in the hippocampus of rats in different groups have been investigated with immuohistochemistry and Western-bloting technique.
