Background:Masseter muscle(MM) is not only an important muscle which both influences the masticatory activity and maintains the mandibular position but also a structure which affects facial contour. The growth of human face and facial contour are related with the function of muscles. Normal function of muscles, including masticatory muscles, is one of the important elements which determine normal growth of human face. Body contour is harmonious with normal physical and functional activity, accompanied with normal muscles and skeletal function. However, abnormal muscles function would also lead to craniomaxillofacial anomalies or made these anomalies worse because the facial solid tissues had following adaptive change. As one of masticatory muscles, masseter muscle strengthens to strongly lift mandible, forming occlusion, involving mandibular protrude or backward, maintaining the mandibular position. Patients' facial contour or masticatory function would be damaged if...
