Objective: The purpose of this study was to design a type of PDLLA Cage, establish the cervical three-dimensional finite element model of the goat C3-4 cervical spine treated with anterior decompression and body fusion, discuss the biomechanics alternation of the Functional Spinal Unit (FSU), investigate the immediate stability of different fusion methods, evaluate biomechanical effect of PDLLA Cage in vitro, and compare the characteristics of inter body fusion using PDLLA Cage with those of titanium Cage and autologous tricortical iliac crest graft in a goat cervical spine model in vivo. Methods: (1) In this part of study, a type of PDLLA Cage was designed and made, and the biomechanical behavior analysis about the materials was performed. (2) Finite element analysis: One healthy adult female goat which had been proved no any spinal disease by radioactive examination was selected. Undertaking CT scan with 0.5mm thickness, the data of CT imaging was taken and saved with DICOM format. After the CT imaging was processed with MIMICS software, the superficial 3D imaging and its boundary coordination was achieved. Using the ABAQUS software, the C3-4 body 3D entity, the PDLLA Cage entity, and the tricortical iliac crest bone graft was created respectively. And then packing these entities together, two...
