This dissertation comprehensively and systematically combs and expounds Individual psychology, tries to draw the outline of the whole picture of individual psychology, and elaborates the origination, formulation and development of individual psychology, introduces the basic theory, application fields and interdisciplinary research achievements of individual psychology, and makes the evaluation and prospect of individual psychology.The dissertation divides individual psychology into two parts, one part is the time of Adler’s individual psychology, and the other part is the time of the death of Adler’s individual psychology. The paper constructs the theory of Alder’s individual psychology, introduces the basic points of it from the view of science, methodology and logical system, sets forth its basic contents from the view of psychological structure, dynamic mechanism and restrict factors of psychological development, psychological pathology, and social psychology, and discusses the application of the theory from the clinical practice and educational exploration. After the death of Adler, Individual psychology continues to grow. The paper calls the death of Adler’s individual psychology post-Adlerian. In the theoretical research, post-Adlerian focuses on exploring several major concepts of individual psychology such as inferiority and its compensation, social interest, early recollections, birth order and life style, and further elaborates the main contents of them. In clinical practice, the school greatly enriches the contents of psychotherapy and develops a variety of methods and models of treatment. In educational exploration, the school systematically and operationally puts forward the ideas of family education and school education. In the application, the school gets fruitful research results in the fields of career development, pastoral counseling, literature production, organizational behavior and psychobiography. In addition, the paper uses the treatment theory and methods of individual psychology into Chinese youngsters’ psychological counseling, in which a client is interviewed for 6 sessions. Clinical practice has proved the feasibility of the theory and treatment method of the school.The main contribution of individual psychology is that it adheres to the view of human-science, focuses on the psychology of everyday life, provides flexible methodological principles, advocates the value of science and social responsibility, and promotes the development of family education and school education. Its main problem is that the theoretical system of the school is lake of rigidity, the view of the human of the school is not profound, and the developmental trend of the school is not clear. Individual psychology has a profound impact on the school of psychoanalysis, humanistic psychology, existential psychology and today’s psychotherapy. In addition, the paper predicts the future of individual psychology from the possibility and feasibility of development.
