A number of factors such as progess in information technology, the development of information industry, the falling portion of the price of information products and services and the improvement of living standards contributed to the fact that information consumption has become a hot issue in the field of China’s consumption. Under the background of lack of external demand and weak domestic demand in China’s economy, the relationship between information consumption and economic growth and how to achieve the optimization and upgrading of industrial structure while stimulating rapid increase of the total economy has become one of the key issues at the present development stage of China’s economic and achieved the academic widespread concern. Currently, there is no concept corresponds to "consumer information" in international academic research. Domestic theoretical study stays at the level of concept discussion and can’t accomplish consensus still uncompromising. Systematic and in-depth theoretical results aren’t enough. Most empirical studies analyze the status of quo and seldom discuss the trends. All studies are agreed with the rapid development of information consumption in the future by default. But there is almost no quantitative research and less research about the interaction between the information consumption and the economy development. This has not only affected the ability to interpreting of information consumption to economic growth, but also caused a lack of analytical framework. In view of this, the work of building the analytical framework of the information consumption hierarchy and revealing the mechanism of the residents information consumption to economic growth and the industrial structure has important theoretical and practical significance to both academic research and government policy.Based on the summary of previous results, this thesis has expanded research around the central issue about "why" and "how" to promote information consumption. This thesis proposed hierarchical structure model of information consumption from the basic concept and structure. Based on this model, this thesis made in-depth and detailed qualitative analysis and empirical research. Firstly, this thesis forecasted the development trend of China’s residents’information consumption based on the analysis of the current development; secondly, this thesis made an analysis of the impact mechanism of residents’information consumption to economic growth. By using a variety of econometric analysis methods, we made a quantitative analysis of the role of residents’information consumption to economic growth; finally, we made a research about the impact mechanism of the residents’information consumption to the industrial structure and also attempted to make an input-output analysis to test and verify. Through the above analysis, this thesis has got some meaningful conclusions as following:Firstly, this thesis has presented a hierarchical structure model of information consumption and studied the residents’information consumption and its impact on related industries from the four levels of information content, information terminals, information networks, information software. This model provided a theoretical basis for the constitution of residents’information consumption, and also laid a theoretical foundation for subsequent chapters.Secondly, based on the above-mentioned model, this thesis has fitted development trend of residents’information consumption from2013to2020, and predicted the future movements from the respects of consumption scale, consumption structure and consumption coefficient: China’s urban and rural residents’information consumption spending will keep the trend of rapid growth, and the average annual growth rate will get to9.6%; Consumption structure will tend to be more reasonable; Information consumption coefficient will be stabilized and the gap between urban and rural consumption will be further expanded. Thirdly, this thesis has made qualitative research of the mechanism of residents’information consumption from two levels of the direct effects and indirect effects; By using variety of measurement methods such as the VAR model, the Quantile Regression model and the Panel Data model this thesis has verified that the impact of residents’information consumption to economic growth has multiplier effect, hysteresis effect and differences effect from two angles of total consumption and consumption structure based on levels of country, urban and rural areas. The main conclusions are as follows:(1) Elasticity coefficient of residents’information consumption to economic growth is0.8856, and it’s significantly affected; It has a lag effect and gradually expanding trend with the passage of time; From the perspective of actual spending, The relationship between the two was that information consumption stimulated economic growth but economic growth hasn’t fully promoted information consumption.(2) The affecting of urban residents’ Information consumption to economic growth is greater than that in rural areas, and the influence of residents’information consumption to economic growth weakened slightly with the increase of total economy.(3) Residents’information consumption has a positive effect to the economic growth of thirty-one provinces, and it has large regional differences, the effect of information consumption of Midwest areas on economic growth is greater than that of east overall.(4) In the consumption structure, the stimulating effect of education, culture and entertainment expenses on economic growth is more significant than communication expenses; there is large gap of stimulating effect on economy between rural communication and education, culture and entertainment, but urban areas are more balanced. Through the above analysis, this thesis has confirmed the necessity of the development of residents’information consumption.Fourthly, based on the qualitative analysis of the interaction between residents’information consumption and industrial structure, taking the urban areas for example, this thesis has verified the existence of the optimizing function of residents’information consumption to industrial structure using the input-output model, depending on three indicators: "induced increased value","production induced factor","induced efficiency for low energy industry", from two levels of three industries and42departments. Conclusions are as follows:(1) Induced factor of residents’ information consumption to the secondary industry and the tertiary Industry is very high. This has described that the development of information consumption could improve the industrial structure optimization rate;(2) The optimized role will be getting better and better with the expansion of the scale of information consumption;(3) The optimized role of residents’ information consumption to industrial structure is better than that of residents’ consumption overall.(4) The optimized efficiency of education, culture and entertainment expenses to industrial structure is much higher than that of communication expenses.(5) We made a sort to information consumption on descending order of function to industrial structure, the order is as follows:communication services, education, culture and entertainment services, communication tools, cultural, educational and entertainment products and textbook expenses. The improvement of the proportion of the higher induced efficiency specific projects can promote industrial structure’s optimization more effectively with the information consumption spending unchanged.
