Layered metal hydroxide (LMH) is used to designate the lamellar hydroxides with two or more kinds of metallic cations in the main layers which bearing fabric positive charge and interlayer domains containing exchangeable anionic species. We can get the multifunction supramolecular nanocomposite material (SNM) by selecting one or more functional guest molecules to insert the interior of host LMH. LMH host layers can supply various cationic frameworks and have an absence of long-range cation ordering, they can be used as the precursors of ferrite spinels with better magnetism since they are often formed with mixtures of the same cations after calcination treatment. LMH and their calcined production have recently attracted intense interest owing to their potential technological applications such as catalysts or catalyst precursors, anionic exchangers, antacids, the treatment of the waste water, antisettling agents, separation and membrane technology, filtration, processing of selective chemical nanoreactors, scavenging and controlled release of anions, medicine, electroactive and photoactive materials, etc.In this article, the synthesis of pure phase Ni-Fe, Co-Fe and Ni-Zn-Fe-LMH were explored in detail at first. Two series of photochromic liquid crystals were synthesized, and their liquid crystalline behaviours and photochromism in different solutions were studied. Then the new SNMs were synthesized by intercalating assembly; one of the prepared liquid crystals and two indictors with azobenzene group were inserted into the interior of LMH interlayer domains. LMH and their calcined production were studied from the magnetic point of view at last. The above work can deepen the understanding to the disciplinarians of preparation and capability of the organic/LMH nanocomposite and magnetic materials originated from LMH, and provide scientific basis for their exploitations and applications. 1. Synthesis and characterization of pure phase Ni-Fe, Co-Fe and Ni-Zn-Fe-LMHThe synthesis of pure phase Ni-Fe, Co-Fe and Ni-Zn-Fe-LMH were studied in detail and the operating conditions have to be optimized for each system. The optimum experimental parameters were listed as following: Ni-Fe-LMH, pH of the reaction medium is 11, temperature in the reactor is 70℃ and aging time of the precipitate is 12 hours; Co-Fe-LMH, pH of the reaction medium is 8, temperature in...
