Facing of ever growing needs of railway transportation, the development of high speed and heavy haul traffic, safety transportation, service quality and capacity requirements, railway needs intelligent development approach. Intelligent Railway is the direction of the future railway. The study of Intelligent Railway is still at the beginning, most of existing researches more focused on technology systems for supporting current railway application, there are lots of needs for further researches of Intelligent Railway architecture modeling and analysis methods. Exploring for Intelligent Railway connotation and core features, architecture modeling, and system of systems (SoS) effectiveness analysis method, are the content of this research. This paper proposed ideas and methods for Intelligent Railway architecture modeling and analysis, will deepen knowledge and understanding of Intelligent Railway, help decision-makers grasp the state of development, and to provide supplementary reference to the proposed decision-making, is the purpose of this paper. This main research works and innovation are:(1) Analyzed the state of arts of Smart Grid, Intelligent Transportation Systems and railway intelligentization, summarized the references of current researches and further research requirements. Integrated with intelligent concepts and theories, SoS engineering and intelligent enterprise theory, proposed the analysis model for elements of SoS based on capability, lay the foundation for further study.(2) Summarized the state of arts of the development of China railway and railway informatization and the power factors of railway Intelligentization, defined the concept of Intelligent Railway, proposed and analyzed Intelligent Railway connotation and core features, and important topic of construction and development content of railway Informatization.(3) Proposed and discussed the process of Intelligent Railway SoS analysis and modeling, proposed capability planning steps for SoS, defined the architecture composition of Intelligent Railway architecture, constructed capability architecture, application architecture, data resource architecture, technology architecture and informatization supporting architecture.(4) Proposed three levels of SoS effectiveness analysis, which includes system effectiveness, SoS business process effectiveness and SoS effectiveness, expression system using formal methods at different levels of performance analysis and performance analysis model composed of related constraints. Studied SoS effectives evaluation general process, proposed degree of intelligence evaluation indicators for railway transportation organization process.This paper centered on Intelligent Railway connotation and core features, focused on SoS planning and analysis, use of theoretical, empirical, comparative methods, through explore the theory and practice of summary, expect for accelerating Intelligent Railway research and development, realizing the fusion of railway informatization and railway business, promoting railway modernization, exploring a scientific and feasible to research direction.
