As an animal model of adjunvant arthritis for rheumatoid arthritis, the paper studied on therapeutic mechanism of moxibustion to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by using various means of ELISA , radioimmunoassay, iinmunohistochemstry and hybridization in situ, from different points of view (such as biochemstry, pathology, neuroendocrinology, immunology, molecular biology, etc.) and various administrative levels (tissue, cell, molecule, gene). The results show that: â‘ Moxibustion can significantly regulate on function of HPA axis to increase contents of corticosterone in serum of rats; â‘¡modulate on function of immune system and cytokines network obviously to inhibit secretion of cytokines inducing inflammation and ICAM-1;â‘¢enhance markedly expression of heat shock protein (HSP7O) and its mRNA ; consequently, moxibustion has a remarkable modulation on neuroimmunoendocrine net function and a curative effect to rheumatoid arthritis as a result. The possible mechanism of therapeutic effect to RA may be: â‘ modulation on neuroendocrine systemic function with starting up a negative feedback to block up secretion of cytokines inducing inflammation, then the inflammation;â‘¡by inducing production of HSP7O and enhancing expression of its mRNA, not only magnification self tolerant ability of organism body, but also adjustment to cytokines network, and then hold back development of inflammation. The results reveal certain neuroimmunoendocrinological mechanism of moxibustion on experimental RA, have certain reference value to further study on inner mechanism of moxibustion, and also provide experimental foundation for treating RA in clinic.
