Part I Association between the expression of β-Catenin and PSCAand the malignant degree of prostatic cancerObjective: Our objective is to analyse the expression of prostate stem cell antigen (PSCA) and β-catenin in prostate gland tissue, and to reveal its relationship with the Gleason score and prognosis of prostatic cancer.Method: By immunohistochemistry, we detected the expression of PSCA and β-catenin in 56 prostatic cancer and 12 benign prostate hyperplasia(BPH) tissue, and with the clinical data we analysed its relationship with Gleason score and clinical staging of prostatic cancer.Result: Among the 12 BPH tissue samples, β-catenin expressed mainly on cytomembrane, and no expression was noted in nuclei or cytoplasm , whereas PSCA appeared weakly positive or negative. Among the 56 prostatic cancer tissue, β -catenin expressed mainly in nuclei , and its expression was moderately to weakly positive in cytoplasm , whereas PSCA appeared weakly to strong positive, mainly in cytoplasm and nuclei. Dividing the 56 prostatic cancer into groups according to clinical stages and Gleason score respectively, we found that the nuclear expression of PSCA and β-catenin was associated with clinical stages and Gleason score. With the increase of clinical stages and Gleason score, the expression of PSCA and β-catenin in nuclei also rose up, and it was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion: The abnormal expression of β-catenin and PSCA in prostatic cancer tissue was closely associated with clinical stages and Gleason score, which is valuable for the diagnosis and prognosis estimation of prostatic cancer.
