Excess collagen deposition in pulmonary arteries plays an important role in the maintenance of pulmonary hypertention, In the present study , we observed the changes of collagen deposition in pulmonary arteries and ventricles in chronic hypobaric hypoxia and monocrotaline (MCT) -induced pulmonary hypertension and the roles of antifibrotic agent β-aminopro-pionitrile (BAPN) and 764-3 (a monomer extracted from traditional chinese medicine ). Wistar rats were divided into 12 groups; I. air-breathing control with saline for 2 weeks (N2w) ; 2. air-breathing control with saline for 4 weeks (N4w); 3, hypoxia with saline for 2 week6 (H2w); 4. hypoxia with saline for 4 weeks (H4w), 5. hypoxia with 764-3 for 2 weeks (7-H2w); 6. hypoxia with 764-3 for 4 weeks (7-H4w); 7. hypoxia with BAPN for 2 weeks (7-H4w); 8. hypoxia with BAPN for 4 weeks (B-H4w); 9. air-breathing control with 764-3 for 2 weeks (7-N2w); 10. air-breathing control with 764-3 for 4 weeks (7-N4w); 11.MCT with saline (M); 12. MCT with 764-3 (7-M). The hypoxic rats were kept in a hypobaric chamber (380 mmHg).The hypoxic rats treated with 764-3 received 20 mg/ kg once daily 6ubcutaneously on days 1-14 and 15-28) respectively, and injected with BAPN received 160mg/kg twice daily intraperitoneally on days 1-14 and 15-28 , respectively. The MCT rats treated with 764-3 received 40mg/kg once daily...
