PART â… Epidemiology of human herpesvirus 8 infection in HIV-infected patients and blood donors from Shandong regionObjective To detect Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) IgG antibodies in HIV-infected patients and blood donors from Shandong region, and then to detect the presence of HHV-8 DNA in the blood samples which are detected to be HHV-8 serapositive; To estimate the seroprevalence of HHV-8 infection among HIV-infected patients and blood donors from Shandong region, and to assess the possibility of HHV-8 transfusion transmission. Methods 86 HIV positive serum samples (prepared from HIV positive patients in Shandong region) and 520 serum samples from blood donors (mainly prepared from Jinan region) were tested for HHV-8 IgG antibody by ELISA, and the presence of HHV-8 DNA in serapositive blood samples were detected using Real-Time Quantitative PCR (SYBR Green). Results1 Serological test1.1 HHV-8 seroprevalence in 86 HIV positive serum samples was 16.275%, and a significant difference was found compard to control subjects (healthy blood donors) (P<0.05) . 1. 2 HHV-8 seroprevalence in 520 serum samples from blood donors was 5.962% (31/520) : it was 6.367% (8/120) among serum samples from male blood donors and was 5. 535% (5/110) among serum samples from famale blood donors. No significant...
