The category of verbal behavior manner is close with that of verbal aspect intraditional aspect studies. The category of behavior manner is classified into the categoryof lexemic grammar according to covert grammar, and crucially it is different from verbalaspect due to that they belong to different language levels but not because of semantics. The aspect belongs to absolute grammar, however, behavior manner belongs to thecategory of covert grammar which refers to those verbs of the same behavior mannersharing functional features in word-building, aspect and syntax collocation. As a kind oflexical meaning of verb, behavior manner exercises its restriction upon verbal aspect anddetermines the correspondence and the non-correspondence of verbal aspect to a certainextent. Generally speaking, behavior manner is defined as the common lexical semanticfeatures possessed by some verbs and which indicate how the behavior progresses in time.Semantics is interwoven with grammar, and to a certain extent the former determinesthe latter. These categories consist of the boundary and the non-boundary, the continuityand the non-continuity, the static and the non-static, the heterogeneity and thenon-heterogeneity, the controllability and the non-controllability and the like. Theboundary and the non-boundary greatly influence the grammatical function of verb. Thesemantic factor can be regarded as a kind of borderline abstraction between grammaticalabstraction and lexical abstraction.Cognitive linguistics states that language is the product and tool of human cognitiveactivities, so its structure and function are also regarded as the result and reflection ofhuman cognitive activities."The prospect of the world"is a kind of conceptual cognitionof the world of various external connections and internal connections. Behavior mannerreflects human cognitive prospect. Any verb, derived or non-derived, belongs to a kind ofbehavior manner. Behavior manner is one of language categories of conveying themeaning of time and it involves the conceptual cognitive prospect of"the internal time".The division of behavior manner is based on categorical similarities of behavior progressedand distributed in time. The semantic feature of behavior manner words is usually (but not necessarily)embodied by the methods of word formation. No matter whether a verb is characteristic in form or not, it is attributed to some behavior manner. Most the categories of behaviormanner are featured by form, and are attributed to the category of word formation of thecategory of behavior manner. The linguistic features of each language is systematical. Russian is rich in prefixes toform verbal internal derivatives and each verb prefix having typical morphologicalsignificance in behavior manner. In word formation, behavior manner as a kind of categoryis close with the significance of word formation, and it is of uniqueness in expression.Behavior manner is a free and non-systematic concept and it is the result of freethinking activity, thus it has no fixed sign and does not form morphology paradigm as well. The meaning of verbal behavior manner does not rely on a special form system, which isalso one of the features different from aspect category. The division of behavior manners isdynamic, so there is no clear boundary between them. Sometimes a behavior manner canbe further divided into smaller categories which can be called as behavior manners as well.Behavior manner as a whole can be divided into two types: the boundary and thenon-boundary, and the differences between them are reflected in their correspondence withverbal aspect. The boundary verbs only have non-perfective form, while the boundaryverbs can have two corresponding aspects or just perfective form.
