The important question in cognitive psycholinguistic is to explore how two languages in bilingual are automatically activated and processed in the word's orthography, phonology, semantics and the mechanism of mutual influence on three aspects during two languages processing.Mongolian belongs to the Altai language family groups, which is a shallow orthographic alphabet writing consisting of thirty-one characters. The features of Mongolian writing form are the direction from left to right, the characters from top to down and no spacing between letters. Mongolian vocabulary adopt the conjoined writing form, In the writing process, Mongolian characters will occur variants, that is to say, the changeable place of characters in a word result in the different writing forms. There are many differences between Mongolian and Chinese in the features, but up till now very few studies have explored the problem in the mechanism of cognitive processing for Mongolia-Chinese bilingual who has mastered two completely different non-cognate languages.In the present study, it is the first time to investigate the cognitive processing of Mongolian words and Mongolian-Chinese words in Mongolian-Chinese bilinguals. By using Chinese and Mongolian true word material in the experiment, we combined the fast masked priming, Go/No go paradigms and the semantic categorization task with event-related potential recordings (ERPs) to explore the time course of phonology, orthography and semantics and their mutual mechanism for Mongolian and Chinese respectively. Based on the above mentioned problems, we investigated the features and representation mechanism of word cognition in bilingual during the Mongolian-Chinese translation priming.Research1, we investigated the time course and the interaction mechanism of the different frequency Chinese words recognition from the activation of phonology, orthography and semantics by manipulating the frequency and priming type with single character materials Three experiments were conducted from the two aspects of the time course and the interaction mechanism, Experiment1is to examine the activation of phonology, Experiment2is to examine the cognition of grapheme, Experiment3is to test the features of the automatic activation of semantics by comparing the repeated priming to the semantic priming.Research2, we manipulated SOA and priming type to investigate the time course and the interaction mechanism for Mongolian words from the activation of phonology, orthography and semantics. There are also three experiments to explain the time course and the interaction mechanism of Mongolian word under the different active condition, that is, the phonology, the cognition of orthography and the features of the automatic activation of semantics.On the basis of first and second researches, we further explored the process features and the interaction mechanism from the level of lexical and concept by adopting Mongolian-Chinese bilingual words translation pairs. Experiment7, we tested the cross-language priming effect from the direction of Mongolian to Chinese words during the Mongolian-Chinese translation priming. Experiment8, we observed the priming effect from the direction of Chinese to Mongolian words during the Chinese-Mongolian translation priming.Overall, we found as follows:(1) For the processing of Chinese characters, graphemic information was firstly activated, and then the semantic information. The activation of semantics was the interactive effect of grapheme and speech.(2) There was a"global precedence effect" in the process of Chinese word recognition. During the initial stage of processing, the frequency of Chinese characters did not affect the automatic activation of grapheme, phonology and semantics.(3) During the process of Mongolian word, phonology was firstly activated, and then orthographic information. The lexical processing for Mongolian word was Top-Down manner. The information of speech and orthographic can promote the activation of semantics. (4) N400was not adjusted by SO A during the repetitive priming of Mongolian-Mongolian and Chinese-Chinese. N250was not adjusted by SOA during the repetitive priming of Mongolian-Mongolian whereas it was adjusted by SOA for Chinese-Chinese. It can be concluded that there were different in the time course between Mongolian and Chinese word.(5) The processing between Mongolian and Chinese word cognition is different. According to the results, we propose the model "the global-dual channel of Chinese character recognition" and "two-way interaction model of Mongolian word recognition"(6) The translation priming effect was asymmetries between Mongolian and Chinese word, which was larger in Mongolian-Chinese way than Chinese-Mongolia way. There was no top-down manner in the bilingual processing.For Mongolian-Chinese bilinguals, the processing and of word form for Mongolian and Chinese vocabulary is entirely independent, and there are no activation and inhibition in the prelexical processing between two languages. Whereas the semantic presentation was shared, The results support the Revised Hierarchical Model.Finally, we suggest that the teacher should adopt some specific methods for second language learning in Mongolia-Chinese bilingual.
