"Silence", definitely not a little-known word or a newly-emerged concept in music, is frequently found in pauses in conventional music works and in John Cage's <4'33"> which developed the repose to its limit. Such silent fragments are viewed somewhat differently among composers, performers and even the audience. The application of "silence", which is actually not a state without any sounds, is one of the characteristics in the creation of the Italian composer Salvatore Sciarrino. It is in effect a state of tranquility (both horizontally and vertically) in a certain part of the music. It is intentionally done in order to leave people a sense of a blank space. This article attempts to interpret my points of view on "silence" and my opinion in its application by means of analyzing and explaining the structure and organizing of the music in the opera<Luci Mie Traditrir;> by Salvatore Sciarrino. It also includes my thinking on carrying forward the tradi; ion and blazing new trails in music creation and analysis.
